Morgan Residence
Manchester, Vermont

This project was the reinvention of a dated and deteriorated 70's saltbox summer cabin into a year round Adirondack style cabin. It would have been significantly easier to have torn down the building and started from new, but there were still many features of the original structure that had sentimental value to the owner.

The field stone fireplace, and rustic "time worn" wood finishes were just a few of the original assets that were redeveloped and incorporated into a new form and articulation for this little cabin. The deep overhangs and strong base add a new dynamic that ties the house securely into this small knoll on the fringes of Manchester, Vermont. The original cabin separated the inhabitants from the outdoors, the new welcomes the outdoors in. The wrap around windows and "glazed" covered porch which incorporates a large bunk room on the second level, flood the interior with natural light and provide the vantage point for a picturesque view of the Green Mountains to the east.
