The collapsing farmhouse was renovated into a country home for guests. A super insulated shell and incorporation of a hybrid heat pump/boiler system supplemented with photo voltaic panels, is used to keep the energy costs at a minimum. While not net zero, the home is performing extremely well and utility costs have been very low. Large white pines planted too close to the house 100 years ago were removed and sliced into floor boards and used throughout the house where existing floors had been removed or worn away. Planks from the dairy barn floor were salvaged and reused to create new stair treads, kitchen cabinets and railings. Doors from the original house were salvaged and reused.  Counters are formed of concrete and recycled marble was used for the fireplace surround and hearth. All general lighting is LED for reduced energy consumption.
