Mission Park Dormitory & Servery, Williams College

Williamstown, Massachusetts

Mission Park is the largest dormitory at Williams College, with over 300 rooms and the largest servery on campus. The project respects the 1970’s concrete and glass structure, yet revitalizes the interior aesthetic and maintains the bold design intended by Mitchell/Giurgola Architects.

We were also commissioned to design the Mission Park Servery. The existing space had become stale due to its age and to insensitive alterations.  The isolation of the kitchen and serving line set into the deepest, darkest depths of the building also added to the identified problems.  The concrete slab floor and utilities had deteriorated and required complete replacement.  Emphasis was placed on capturing natural light and fostering a feeling of the extension of space - making it seem larger than it really was.
